Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Management
Conduct daily site safety inspections for excavation, grading, backfilling, compaction, and heavy equipment operations.
Ensure compliance with approved method statements, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems.
Monitor safe operation of earthmoving equipment including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, graders, rollers, dump trucks, and loaders.
Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, and HSE awareness sessions.
Ensure proper use of PPE by all site personnel.
Monitor traffic management and pedestrian safety within the worksite.
Verify lifting operations and excavation activities are performed safely.
Ensure emergency preparedness measures are maintained at site.
Maintain related registers, checklists and other project documentation.
Environmental Management
Monitor dust suppression, waste management, fuel handling, and spill prevention measures.
Ensure environmental controls are implemented during excavation and hauling activities.
Monitor noise and vibration control measures where required.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and client environmental requirements.
Incident & Compliance Management
Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Prepare incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain HSE records, inspection reports, and safety statistics.
Coordinate with supervisors and subcontractors to close safety observations.
Participate in HSE audits and inspections by clients or authorities.
Coordination & Communication
Liaise with site engineers, supervisors, operators, and subcontractors on HSE matters.
Support implementation of company HSE policies and procedures.
Promote a positive safety culture across the project.
Required Skills:
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
NEBOSH IGC / OSHA certification or equivalent preferred.
Additional certifications in First Aid, Fire Safety, or Confined Space Safety are an advantage.
Minimum 3+ years of HSE experience in civil construction or earthworks projects.
Experience in excavation, trenching, roadworks, grading, and heavy equipment operations preferred.
Familiarity with local HSE regulations and construction safety standards.
